Thanks for the score but Im going to do the 5 day challenge even through the holidays. I was just kidding with my response above. And if I can do it then believe me anybody can!! So lets do it together and keep in touch and let me know how its going!! Im really going to challenge myself...something I dont do very often!
Christy....okay you're on :-) I will start tomorrow. Now I need to bone up on refined carbs and "bad" fats. I think my biggest issue is lack of knowledge on proper diet. I think if I know what I should and should not eat, then I can make sure I make the right choices. Just make sure you remind of this during the next five days......PM me. I must be doing something right...I lost four pounds since I started watching Dietribe this fall !
PJ Im pretty sure refined carbs are found in things like sugar, white bread, pasta, cereal, crackers, etc.. They are bad for you because they cause an increase in your blood sugar and if your blood sugar isnt used by your body then it is stored as fat. Good Carbs to eat are vegetables, fruits and whole grains. I think when Jessie is talking about bad fats he means animal fats which are all saturated like the fat from beef, pork, lamb, and even chicken.. There good for you if they are lean but if the fat isnt trimmed then you can consume a large amount of saturated fat or bad fat. More bad fats can be cream, butter, and dairy products containing milk fat. Low fat dairy is fine and much much healthier. Jessie constantly talks to me about eating healthier and Im trying my best to change my bad habits but I do make a mental note of his every word!! So I hope this helps you out and Congrats on losing the 4 pounds!! Way to go!!
Hey Christi ...thanks so much for the info on refined carbs. I am impressed, you are obviously listening to Jessie and picking up some very good info. My downfall is sweets such as a handfull, or two, of M&Ms after dinner and I love my Oreo cookies after lunch. Oh and Christmas cookies :-) I tend to fall short on veggies. I don't eat a lot of red meat I like fish and chicken. I love cheese but our milk is 2%. So, I can see where my challenge is going to be over the next five days....they are going to be coming out of the oven tomorrow :-( Maybe I could find some healthier kind of Christmas cookie, if there is such a thing......thanks again for your info.
PJ When baking you can use heart-healthy canola oil instead of butter. Substitute egg whites for whole eggs. And try using cocoa powder instead of chocolate in your baked goods. And nuts make a great holiday snack and most of the fat is unsaturated. Just some food for thought!! In regards to holiday eating just choose wisely but still enjoy yourself. As always, moderation and portion control rule. Too much of anything can add unwanted pounds and be unhealthy. Dont skip meals but say no to second helpings, try filling up with fruits since you dont like vegetables, and drink plenty of water to aid digestion. Plus water will keep you feeling full for longer. Good luck to us both!!
One thing you have to remember to do is READ THE LABELS. If you are trying to stay away from bad fats then remember saturated and trans fats are not your friend. If you are trying to consume good fats then look for polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. Examples of good fats are avocado, most of your fish contain good fats (salmon, scallops, etc, nuts, flax seed oil, olive oil, the list really goes on and on. Remember in the future that if you are going to consume things like butter then go for the real deal, stay away from margarine! I hope this helps and let me know how things are going. I will be posting a list of healthy options.
Hi Jessie I am going to take you up on your challange and try to do it for more than just 5 days but little steps first 5 days then I ll go from there. Thanks for the idea let you know how it goes!
I have to say that the challenge has made me more determined to stop sabotaging myself. You have no idea how many times I have received candy from others, as a gift, since this challenge started and had to toss it in the trash. Thanks for the kick in the pants.
