One of my favorite healthy snacks is fat-free yogurt with Go Lean protein cereal and one scoop of chocolate protein powder. What are your favorite snack recipes? Let me know!
I need to try that one...sounds great
You know, I usually just grab something that's ready to go. Either a handful of nuts, or a piece of fruit... guess I haven't been too creative in that aspect. I suppose now is as good a time as any to learn, right?
Kashi Go Lean is delicious I love it!
I know it doesnt sound like a snack but it is a healthy alternative to many ready to go ones.
1 cup spinach
1 table spoon hummus
4 oz chicken
1 oz green pepper
1 oz cucumber
I eat it as my morning snack and it fills me up till lunch time and give me enough nutrience for an afternoon 5 mile run.
The other good one i have as my pre workout meal is half banana blended with 2 scoops of chocolate protein and ice water..... add a tea spoon of 100% cocao and you have a nice late afternoon snack alternative.
My daily afternoon snack depends on if I am in the mood for sweet and salty or sweet and sweet-lol. I take a cameo apple to work every day. I either sprinkle it with tajin (lime and chili fruit seasoning) or I dip it in honey flavored Okios greek yogurt.
Okios greek yogurt has 0 fat and 13g of protein. It is more like a mousse texture than a regular yogurt. SO good either alone or as a fruit dip. The "plain" flavor I use as a substitute for sour cream. Vanilla is good mixed with a cereal.
My other favorite snack is almonds and craisins.
I am always looking for on the go snacks.
I love laughing cow cheese with special K crackers and an apple! Very filling and you get something crunchy, cheese and something sweet! Lowfat microwave popcorn is always good too! Pomegrantes are good too, takes a long time to pick all the seeds out!
I have red fat wheat thins and red fat cheese or just a banana and granola, for the drink its green tea or gatorade.
I like honey nut brown rice cakes with almond butter about two hours before the gym- gives great energy, but doesn't make you feel too full...
LOVE granny smiths with low-fat peanut butter!!
lowfat vanilla yogurt with granola is a fave, too. but does anyone know if the pros outweigh the cons with granola? i eat tons of granola bars b/c they are so great for on the go!!
love plain bananas, too.... :)
I love to freeze my yogurt.........makes it seem like an ice cream treat! Plus it takes a little longer to eat that way. You can pick any flavor you like or add things to it before you freeze it.......hope you like it as well.~~~
i would like to know what heathly snacks there are
If I'm snacking at home: yoghurt with fresh fruit, granola and almond slices.
If I'm snacking on the road: either home made/store bought granola bars, apples/bananas/grapes, cottage cheese or store bought avocado roll sushi.
sushi...... ah man..... that's a GOOOOOOD one......
Another snack of mine popped into mind while I was on the coffee/tea thread.
It's more of a dessert really, but it's better than jell-o. Best suited for summer months.
Buy either gelatin or agar (available in the baking aisle or specialty stores).
Brew up a favourite tea or coffee.
Pour into cups and add 1 or 1 and a half teaspoon of gelatin/agar (The amount can be adjusted if you want a firmer outcome)
Add sugar or honey if desired.
Let stand in fridge.
Serve chilled with optional fruit, additional honey or with cream (coffee).
Additionally, you're not limited to only green, red or black tea. Try herbal or floral teas! Rose buds, jasmine, peppermint are all great alternatives.
