Healthy Snacks...
What nobody wants to talk snacks?  It looks like Jessie gave all the "good" answers already....I love almonds, pistacios, a ripe banana, carrots are good because they take forever to chew, popcorn I love.  My grocer just started stocking differnt kinds of trail mix, one is Hawaiian and it's really different.  I like Quaker Oats rice cakes, they're light and have a variety of flavors.  Grapes and the raisins that come in the individual little boxes are great because they are natually sweet.  I love snacks especially Oreos...but I doubt that will fuel my metabolic fire as well as the others :-)  Frisky...you're next sister ....

LOL! i'm next, eh? alright, i'm game.... smiley-wink.gif let's see.. snacks i eat to fuel my metabolic fire... hmm. well, while i'm not a big oreo fan, they ARE really good dipped in lemonade, believe it or not! LOL!!  *clears throat* ah... not that i condone eating cookies or anything. tee hee hee.  i presently have a bunch of clementines in a bowl on my counter, which is working out well, as i go to them instead of the pantry for all the processed stuff. super sweet, unbelievably easy to peel, and no seeds!! woo hoo!! yeah, i like fruit. bananas, grapes, apples with peanut butter...  i just bought some almonds to try out as a snack, also.  but come to think of it, i actually drink more for snacks than eat. sugarless drinks, like propel and tea. does that count AT ALL??  probably not... hmm.

-Banana with ground flax seed and agave-Brown rice cake with almond butter-Raw cashews or almonds-Apples, pears

Clay - what is this ground flax seed and how and why is it used? and where do you find almond butter????  these snacks of yours sound very intriguing!!

To me, bananas are like the best snack out there...its filling, sweet and comes wrapped lol..course its important to remember you have one in your bag or....i also love love love peeled baby carrots....i don't even need dip for it...i just hope i don't turn orange. the funny thing is a lil over a week ago my snacks wouldve consisted of a bottle of diet coke and whatever i could get out of the work vending machines that was chocolate of salty:)

my new fav. snack are all natural almonds. Plus there easy to take to work with me when I sub. I also like peanut butter with apple slices. I wish I could eat bananas more often but I am allergic so tend to only eat every so often
Hi Frisky- Flax seed is a great source of omega 3's and fiber- I usually put it in my shakes, but found sprinkling it on top of a cut up banana with agave is yummy!Almond butter you can find at Whole Foods (their brand).
I love all the great snack ideas! I'm not usually a very good snacker - that's where I tend to get myself into trouble. I love the idea of keeping a bowl of clementines or any other fruit on the table! Having them where you can see them and will be reminded to have a healthy snack is very smart! Another thing that I do is to keep the unhealthy stuff out of my house. If it's there, it's much too tempting.
Thank you for sharing.   I always grab a handful of the snacks
Liza! i soo agree with you about bananas! they're just an all around perfect and easy snack thats super filling and so sweet. i'm surprised they dont make sweeteners out of them, actually....
Debi - sooo true! as a kid, my mom always kept the cabinets stocked with Little Debbies. GAH!! i swore to myself, and have kept that promise i might add, that i would never let those sinful snacks into MY home!! LOL. i try to use that philosophy with other things, too, as my will power leaves much to be desired. and i think, at least for those of us with the "out of sight, out of mind" disposition, it is truely imperative to have healthy snacks kept out in the open to be seen as soon as we step foot into the kitchen. otherwise, i forget about all about them and go to the pantry (home of all things processed) out of habit!!
and thanks Clay, for that info! do you get flax seed and agave at Whole Foods, too? i'm not sure if we have those around here....  oh, and is there a specific reason why you chose agave as your sweetener of choice? i'm trying new stuff out presently...

raspberry yogurt with Kashi Go Lean cereal mixed in
Frisky- Yes you can buy them at Whole Foods, though I'm sure a health food store has them as well. I use agave because I like the taste and it doesn't spike your blood sugar. I believe Jessie also mentioned Stevia on another post, which is pretty good too, in my opinion (I put that in tea).

wow loving these snack ideas! i work 11p to 7a so munchies had always been my downfall(moreso to keep awake, and from boredom vs hunger) so its good to see all these alternatives vs vending machine choices...i'm really curious about this almond butter...I'm allergic to peanuts and i've tried soy butter which is decent but would like to try some other nut butters!
I ate a snack lunch today: 4 slices of lean turkey cold cuts, 4 slices of low fat cheese, 1 carrot cut into slices, 1/4 red pepper cut into slices, 3 broccoli florets, 4 prunes 1 sliced apple, 4 low sodium triscuits -delicious and satisfying lunch
