Tea vs Coffee
I'm desperately trying to give up coffee, for more than one reason, so I'm trying to figure out if tea is a better, healthier alternative.

Thoughts?
Almost all tea contains high levels of anti-oxidants, which are nutrients and vitamins that help purge the body of toxins. In short, yes, tea is healthier than coffee. This is of course not to say that coffee is bad for you. The benefits of drinking tea, however, far outweigh any possible benefits of drinking coffee, unless your only goal is to receive a large dose of caffeine.
I would stick to decaf tea...I switched my family to decaf tea two years ago and they still don't know it, so you can't tell the difference as far as taste.  I personally don't drink tea, coffee or sodas..  I drink nothing but water, powerade zero, fat free milk and protein drinks.  Caffeine is a diuretic and will speed the dehydration process so if you're drinking caffeine make sure you increase your water intake daily...just a tip.  Good for you giving up coffee though, good luck to you!
My favorite is Peppermint Tea (decaf). I feel like I need the caffeine to get through the day, but I know that once I got used to not having it, I would be ok without it. I have severe acid reflux (had surgery once, came apart, now I take 2 different meds to control it), and coffee is just horrible with that, and I want to get away from the caffeine addiction.
Good news! Green tea and yerba mate are some great alternatives to coffee and some added good news is that you have a lot more variety than you had before!!  Let me know how it goes.
I keep making excuses... "I definitely need coffee today, because..." So, I'm just setting a date and that's it. Saturday, no more coffee. We'll see how it goes.
I enjoy tea although I am addicted to ice lattes even though Starbuck's charges me $4.20 for them!
I did a 21 day cleanse back in August and coffee wasn't allowed on it- it was rough for the first few days, but now I don't even miss it. I do drink green tea once in awhile.
It didn't happen. I figured out really quick that the week before finals was not the week to give up coffee. Fortunately, I have a month-long break before the next quarter starts, so I think it will go better then.
okay, so... other than coffee being a diuretic and containing caffine, is it really THAT bad?? i thought there were recent studies that even showed coffee was great in regards to preventing Alzheimers and things. hmm. and what exactly is this "yerba mate?"
ugh!  i. AM. SUCH. A. COFFEE. PERSON. (or maybe i'm just a SUPER non-morning person...)
Frisky lol you have more natural energy than anyone I've ever met online !  Don't tell me it's all been coffee talking !  I've never acquired the coffee habit but I do drink Coke...too much...and it's soooooo bad for you.  So, I started drinking green tea - TAZO ZEN it's amazing...leaves a spearmint aftertaste in your mouth.  Unfortunately, they don't make it in decaf....but tea is sooo much better than Coke.  I've started drinking Grape juice and Fusion ....plus lots of water.

PJ

Hey PJ! yeah, ever since i saw on a news show one time how one soda has almost an ENTIRE CUP of sugar in it (bleh!!!!!) i have been pretty turned off from that kinda stuff. though, if i DO drink one, once in a blue moon, it most definitly is coke. ;) but come to think of it, we brew A LOT of ice tea, i should just switch over to decaf green tea, true?? dang. i think a light bulb just popped on over my head! LOL!  presently though, i also drink a lot of that vitamin drink Propel. i make pitchers of it to keep in the fridge for the whole gang, but since we consume so much i water it down a bit. i actually like it better that way, just a hint of flavor, feel me? good stuff.  :)

I'll have to try that one PJ. I've never enjoyed green tea but that actually sounds good! I've heard that the process for decaffeinating coffee or tea is actually bad for you too - I don't know if it's really true - but unless you're sensitive to it a little caffeine might not be so bad.
And the sugar in Coke isn't actually the worst thing in there. Diet drinks also are very bad.
Hey Debi!  Try it, I never was a tea drinker until I read multiple articles on the benefits of green tea (black tea second best for benefits).  The list is as long as my arm...antioxidents, etc. etc.  I'm always looking for simple ways to enrich my health and tea is one of them for sure.

PJ
I'm going to PJ - next time I get to the store (not today!!!). I've been a tea drinker since I was a child - LOL! Just could never MAKE myself drink green tea. I make an effort to like things that are healthy - so I'll try again.
